How to Block Porn on Your Phone and Computer
Feeling stuck in a cycle with porn can be exhausting.
This guide walks you through how to block porn on your phone and computer so your systems, not just your willpower, are working in your favor.
This guide is part of my Porn Addiction Therapy in Florida hub. It focuses on device based blocking and reducing easy access.
Who this guide is for
You keep relapsing when your phone or laptop is nearby, especially at night.
You have tried streak counters or willpower and still feel stuck.
You are supporting a partner and want to understand concrete tools that can help.
Step 1: Identify your access points
Before you can build new systems, you need to understand how your current one works.
Ask yourself:
Where do I usually access porn: phone, computer, TV, or tablet?
What times of day am I most vulnerable?
What apps, websites, or situations tend to trigger me?
Write down every possible route. Many people realize their access is not just explicit sites, but also YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, certain TV shows, or even specific routines at night.
Awareness is the first step toward designing guardrails that actually fit your life.
Step 2: How To Block Porn On Your Phone
Think of friction as anything that slows down automatic behavior. If it takes more steps to access porn, your brain has more time to remember your goals.
For most people, the simplest and most effective place to start is phone and computer restrictions. These are not punishments. They are pause buttons that help you step out of the automatic loop.
Porn blocking on iPhone
Turn your phone into an ally instead of a trigger by using the built in Screen Time tools.
Open Settings, then Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Go to Web Content and select Limit Adult Websites.
When prompted, set a temporary Screen Time passcode.
Later, ask someone you trust (a partner, friend, or accountability partner) to change that passcode to one you do not know.
Sometimes a screen appears asking you to add an email for passcode recovery. Depending on the iOS version, you may be able to tap cancel. If not, have your accountability partner use their Apple ID.
From the main Screen Time page, you can also limit time on browsers, social media, or any apps that tend to lead toward porn. Make sure to select Block at End of Limit so the time limit actually stops use.
For stronger protection, you can:
Disable Safari under Content & Privacy Restrictions in Allowed Apps.
Delete any browsers or apps that lead to temptation.
Disallow installing new apps under iTunes & App Store Purchases by selecting "Do not allow" for installing apps.
You and your accountability partner can agree on a specific check in time, such as the first of each month, to temporarily unlock Screen Time for any needed updates.
Porn blocking on Android
On Android, there are strong third party options for filtering and accountability. Examples include:
NopoX - Porn Blocker
NoBeep: Quit Porn Addiction
Apps like these often offer customizable filters, usage limits, and education or support resources. Choose options that match your values, privacy needs, and budget.
It is normal to feel some resistance to these changes. You are not limiting yourself because you are weak. You are building a safer environment for a brain that has been pushed past its limits.
Accountability apps for porn addiction
If you want an added layer of support, accountability tools can help.
Some apps, such as Victory: Quit Porn Now, use approaches like blurred screenshots and reports to an accountability partner, so you are not facing everything alone.
For more comprehensive monitoring across multiple devices, services like Qustodio can provide filtering and usage reports. These tools can sometimes be set up so that a trusted person receives alerts when risky activity occurs.
Step 3: Block porn on your computer
Cold Turkey
Phones are often the biggest challenge, but computers matter too, especially if you use them alone or late at night.
One effective tool many people use is Cold Turkey Blocker, which lets you block specific websites and apps on your computer. The free version already provides strong protection and creates the same kind of friction you are building on your phone.
DNS Blocking
For an extra layer of safety, you can explore DNS level blocking, which filters adult content before it even reaches your device. Communities like r/NoSurf have step by step guides for this. Blocking works best when it’s paired with a broader recovery plan.
If you notice yourself becoming a tech genius trying to bypass blockers, it may be a sign that technical tools alone are not enough and that it might be time to combine them with therapy to address the underlying habit.
If you’re still unsure whether your pattern is an addiction or simply a bad habit, Signs of Porn Addiction offers a brief checklist.
Bonus: Remove hidden triggers and environmental cues
Sometimes recovery stalls not because of explicit porn, but because of subtle cues that keep your mind in the same loop.
Reflect on your digital environment:
Are there social media feeds that subtly lead you back toward sexualized content?
Do you tend to scroll late at night when you are tired, wired, or lonely?
Are there specific shows, subreddits, or YouTube channels that blur the line between entertainment and temptation?
Removing hidden triggers might mean unfollowing certain accounts, deleting specific apps, or setting screen free hours in the evening.
This is not about punishment. It is about protecting your attention and giving yourself more room for rest, creativity, and real connection.
